4.0 out of 5 stars Easy read!!, May 29, 2014

I gave this book a 4 due to grammar mistakes. The grammar mistakes did not adversely affect my reading experience or the content covered.

I didn't even know what homesteading was before picking up this book, but I read the blurb and thought I could take something away from it. I'm a writer myself and I love to learn about the different ways people live. It turns out, two of my characters in two very different books are homesteaders, I just didn't know the term for it. So anyway, I got the book.

The book was a very easy read. I'm a slow reader and I struggle getting through anything nonfiction. This book was an exception. I had no trouble whipping through it. It was written in a conversational style and was straight to the point without being choppy or scattered. I actually found myself hooked and I'm not a homesteader, nor do I plan to be, granted after reading this, if I liked vegetables, I'd probably convert.

The author was very concise and seemed to have a lot of knowledge about the topic. Prescott also pointed out ways that anyone, including apartment dwellers, could apply the homesteading life style. Prescott did not push the money factor. In fact, when solar panels, generators, and other expensive materials were mentioned, the author advised the reader to hold off. "You'll know you need it when you need it" - very solid advice.

This book covers a wide variety of topics: veganism, homeschooling, 100 things challenge, recipes, gardening, vermiculture, and many more. The author was never condescending in her words about any of the topics in this book, but rather gave the facts along with some benefits and risks.

This is the perfect book for a beginner. It's short, but the information within the pages is vast. Not to mention that this book is one of the lower priced in it's genre. Before spending $15 on an e-book on homesteading, I highly recommend you to check out this one. It will be well worth your time. Even if you don't decide to be a homesteader, you will take away an understanding and appreciation for what it is. And who knows, maybe some of the things mentioned can be of use to you.
